About

The 'International Space School Educational Trust', ISSET, is a registered charity that Chris Barber founded with invaluable support and assistance from Geoff and Annette Mules. Geoff and Annette had already established the 'International Space School Foundation' in Houston. The aim of ISSET is to motivate and enthuse young people through direct involvement with the educational benefits of the human exploration of space.

The support of NASA has given the Trust a unique opportunity to fulfil its mission in the most exciting and innovative ways imaginable. It has enabled students to appreciate the value of a truly global venture and to have contact with the world's largest scientific and technological programme. This, together with the support that the Charity has received from the WDA, through its farsighted and forward thinking Wales Information Society, has allowed ISSET to provide a wide range of advanced technological events.

ISSET uses advanced technological communication to bring teaching and learning opportunities into classrooms and homes. In September the ISSET web site was launched on the Internet. The site is enormous and rapidly expanding. It has over 1000 web pages and references that link developments in space directly to the school curriculum. The logically structured and easy to use library allows students, teachers and parents to locate exciting and informative learning materials in a matter of minutes, saving hours of possibly fruitless 'net surfing'. The site also provides a virtual journey of inspirational educational sites that starts at the centre of the earth, travelling out through the earth's surface and atmosphere onto space, the solar system and to the universe of galaxies.

The charity brings to children and young people first hand experiences of the work and life of astronauts, space scientists and technologists through organising videoconferences with NASA, astronaut visits to schools, and educational conferences in Wales and the West of England as well as actual visits for young people to space centres in USA and Russia.
