In September ISSET organised a visit by astronauts Julie Payette and Rick Husband. The astronauts were the special guests at the International Symposium for Heads of University Engineering Departments hosted by Cardiff University. The astronauts' input was described as the highlight of the Symposium. The astronauts also visited primary and secondary schools and took part in ISSET's sixth form conference at the BA Aircraft Maintenance Plant.

ISSET took part in the international 'Education in Union' Conference in Cardiff in October 1999. The ISSET presentation was at the prestigious St David's Hotel and comprised of an 'in-person' address by Astronaut Chris Hadfield, a live videoconference interview with Astronaut Dafydd Rhys Williams in Washington and a live virtual tour of the astronaut training facilities in Johnson Space Centre, Houston. The ISSET presentation was again described as a highlight and it enabled the charity to further its contacts around the globe.
