About

Work has begun on the ISSET CDROM, which is to be distributed to the secondary schools in Wales. The CDROM will allow speedy access to the ISSET web site resource without on-line cost.

In March 2000 ISSET launched its 'Science in Space' competition for schools. The competition was being held in Wales, Scotland and the West of England. In competition teams of school children made an IT based proposal for an experiment that would benefit human kind if carried out in space on the International Space Station. The winning teams from each region took part in study programmes at NASA's Ames Space Centre, California, Johnson Space Centre, Houston and Kennedy Space Centre, Florida in May.

Whilst in Wales in April, ISSET organised for the astronaut party to hold Sixth Form Conferences at Cardiff University and Swansea College, attend the WDA Data Networking Camp for school students and address the Wales smE-Business Conference.

The International Space School has been in existence since March 1999 and has had a flying start. It is on course to build upon the foundation year to stimulate further interest amongst young people in science education and help instil that 'can do spirit' that is so much a part of the space exploration programme.
