
How to Enter
The Science in Space 2002 competition is open to all students, years 10 and above in Wales and additionally the Cardiff LEA area.
The Team
Teams should comprise 2 pupils from Year 10 or above. Schools may submit as many teams as they wish, and teams may enter as many times as they wish, for different questions.
The team may be invited for a short interview.
The Competition
Pupils have the option of submitting reports in one of the following areas:
1. Experimentation in microgravity. What can be done better, what might be the beneficial outcomes.

2. The terraforming of Mars. How would we get there? How would we survive in a hostile environment? How might we terraform the Martian surface?

Mars Odyssey Project3. Can we launch payloads into space more economically than at present? What are the problems to overcome? What are the possible solutions?

4. What are the chances of finding life beyond our planet? Is there life close by in our own solar system, or further afield associated with planets around other stars? Where might we look in our solar system, are other systems worth a visit and how would we get there?

Texas Space Scholars
The report must be submitted in an IT-based format that will allow it to be included on the ISSET web site.

The Selection Process
A NASA panel, composed of scientists and astronauts, will carry out the judging. The judging process will take into account the quality of the experimental proposal and the quality of the use of ICT in the preparation and presentation.The short-listed project teams will be invited to present their projects and participate in a short interview.
The winning participants are also expected to complete the Earth to Mars project.
Timescale
The project must be submitted via e-mail by the 8th January 2002.
The Procedure for Submission of Proposals
Send an email to Chris Barber (isset@globalnet.co.uk), Competition Organiser at ISSET with:
1. Your School information, including name, address, telephone number, fax number and email address. Please include contact details for your teacher.
2. Your team's information, including names and ages of all team members.
3. Attach your proposal to the email and send to ISSET.
