Joey Broome
Howdy! My name is Joey Broome! I'm 24 years old and I've just
recently been hired on here at NASA. I was born and raised in
LaGrange, Georgia before I decided to move to Auburn, Alabama and pursue a
degree in Aerospace Engineering. I graduated from Auburn University in December
of 1999 with my degree and have been working here since January.
I work in the Advanced Mission Design branch of the Aeroscience
and Flight Mechanics Division. I'm currently working on the X-38 project which is a test project for the Crew Return Vehicle (CRV). The CRV is
the "life raft" for the International Space Station. In case of emergency
the crew can get on the CRV and it will fly them home to safety. More
specifically, I'm working on the de-orbit targeting and de-orbit guidance software for one of the test vehicles known as vehicle 201. Vehicle
201 will be taken into orbit by the shuttle and released, and it will basically fly itself home.
Before joining NASA full-time I was a cooperative education
student for three years. I spent time in the Life Support Branch, the Shuttle Entry Design group, and the Exploration Office. I also participated
in the High School Outreach program where co-ops visit neighboring high schools and talk about what NASA does, the importance of math and science, and college in general.
I'm looking forward to working with all of you!
