Katherine Peters

I decided I wanted to work for NASA the day they put my Kindergarden class in a room to watch the launch of STS-2. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do for NASA, I just knew I wanted to be part of the Space program. I grew up in Richmond, Virginia and attended a local private school. When I graduated in 1993, I went on to MIT to get my degree in Aerospace Engineering. While at MIT, I also discovered I had a big interest in Psychology and Neuroscience, so about a month before I was going to graduate, I decided to stay an extra year and get a second Bachelors degree in Neuroscience. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it but it sounded like a really good idea at the time!

I got my Aerospace degree in 1997 and the Neuroscience degree in 1998. After a year of trying to decide what to do next, I ended up moving down to Houston to work at JSC. I'm currently working in the International Space Station program working manifests for ISS Shuttle flights. In the future, I'm hoping to move over to the Mission Operations and become a Flight Controller. While I was in school, much of my aerospace studies were focused toward Human Factors and Life Support Systems so I'm hoping to get more heavily involved in those areas in the future.
