Moon Base Alpha
Objectives
At
the end of this lesson students will be able to list rationales for why a lunar
base could be profitable undertaking and describe the various systems, resources
and facilities that would be required to support one.
Students
will explore virtual reality models, 3-D models, videos, on-line tutorials and
other multi-media links about lunar bases to accomplish this.
Specifically,
students will upon completing this unit of instruction be able to:
List
rationales for why a human tended base on the moon could be profitable for
the advancement of science as well as for commercial ventures
Describe how telescopes on the Moon would work
Describe mining and manufacturing facilities that could be built on the Moon
Describe the types of systems needed for life support of a permanent lunar base
Analyze the findings of possible water on the Moon and why it would be a valuable resource
Design a lunar base located at the South Pole
Successful
knowledge acquisition will be determined by students submitting a a design for
a lunar base (including mission timelines and components) and by scoring at
least 75 percent on the quiz.
