November 27, 2000 Dear Texas Aerospace Scholars! Welcome to the second year of the program! We are so excited to be working with you. We have made some changes to the program this year and would appreciate all of your comments and suggestions as the year goes by. Please let us know if you have not yet received your acceptance letter and we will send you one right away. In it is your password and the location of the registration site. You will need to get a hotmail account for this program with your first initial and last name. Please always use this e-mail when corresponding with NASA. Because of the delay in the mission we have extended the due date for the first assignment to December 4th. Please try to register and submit your assignment by this date. You can access the Activities from the front page or your Scholar’s Page. The first assignment is All Systems Go! The first four assignments must be submitted by January 12th. At this time alternates who have submitted their assignments will be selected to become primary scholars Unfortunately my e-mail in the letter was incorrect. Please note that you can write me at or aerospace.scholars1@jsc.nasa.gov for any reason, at any time! Many of you have asked about the summer workshop. Scholars will choose from the 8 available weeks in the summer in April. It is too soon to choose your week at this time. You will choose three weeks that you can attend and we will assign you to one of them. Then you will be assigned a team and a NASA mentor. We will have on-line discussions in January and March with your NASA mentors on the space shuttle, space station, Moon and Mars. Your team chat will take place two weeks before your summer workshop. The summer workshop is all expenses paid. If you can’t find anything on the website or if you have questions about the lessons please write me. All of your assignments will be reviewed by high school science teachers who are working for NASA this year. They will review your assignment within two weeks of the due date. You will not be graded, but your assignments need to meet the performance criteria noted in each Mission. If three or more criteria are not met your teacher can request you resubmit your lesson. The lessons are meant as fun and informative journeys to explore the space program. Many research assignments and design challenges await you! Again, if you are your parents have any questions don’t hesitate to write or call, Yours, Rita Karl Education Manager Texas Aerospace Scholars Program NASA Johnson Space Center 281 483 7158
