Advanced Skills Teachers are at the core of the DfES agenda for the transformation of education in the 21st century. There are currently 4500 ASTs in post with the potential to influence and inspire educators and teachers throughout the country.
This course is an opportunity to benefit from utilising the exciting and motivational context of space and space exploration to inspire teaching and learning in the classroom and staffroom.
The programme enables teachers to greatly enhance student motivation and effectiveness in learning to bring about increased student attainment.
The training is directed towards ASTs in all aspects of primary and secondary education with particular interest to teachers of the following areas:

- To enable ASTs to further inspire teachers in increasing student motivation, student attainment and the effectiveness of teaching and learning.

To provide secondary ASTs with a unique opportunity for teacher training at NASA
- To develop techniques to utilise the motivational powers of space and space exploration in the classroom and with colleagues in outreach/ inreach schools
- ASTs will be able to monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of such teaching and learning programmes
- Enrolment on postgraduate certificated assessment programmes, opening the possibility of obtaining the first part of a Masters degree
- ASTs will be able to make contacts with NASA and educational personnel in the USA as well as fellow secondary ASTs to establish virtual and actual long-term links and liaisons.
